What Can I Do?

Computer and Device Help

    Do you have a question or a problem with your computer or device? Maybe I can help?

Configuration and Upgrades

    I can help to set up new computers and devices as well as configure and tweak existing devices. I can also perform upgrades (for example upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10, new Android and iOs versions, Device Firmware upgrades, etc).

Networking

    Are you having problems getting your computers, devices, peripherals and printers to talk to each other? Maybe I can help set up or configure your home network / Wi-FI.

Peripherals and Printers

    I am good at setting up, diagnosing problems with and maintenance of peripherals and printers.

Anything Else Technical

Other Gadgets and Electronics

    In addition to computing related items, I am pretty good at figuring out many gadgets and appliances from videos to TV's, microwaves, clocks, anything electronic. I have fixed clocks, programmed microwaves, wired up videos to TV's and beyond, and plenty of other tasks. Perhaps I can help you with your appliance or gadget.

Teaching

    Do you need coaching so you can better use your computer, phone, tablet, software, peripherals, printers, networking, or anything else computer related? I may well be able to help as I am very knowledgable when it comes to these areas.

What Am I Familiar With?
  • Windows 7, 8 and 10
  • Apple iOs (iPhones and iPads)
  • Android (Phones and Tablets)
  • Raspberry Pi (I own a RPi3b+ and a RPi4b)
  • Past Experience with Linux and Unix. The Raspbian OS on the Pi's is a form of Linux.
  • Software such as Microsoft Office products, web browsers, email apps, etc.
  • Social media platforms such as Facebook and Nextdoor.
  • Basic HTML for website building.
  • Limited experience with Apple MacOS X.
  • Hardware fixes and upgrades. Here are some things I have done and I am familiar with:
    • Replaced failing computer fan.
    • Cloned and replaced failing hard disk.
    • Memory module upgrades.
    • Installed PCI or other internal cards that increase computer functionality.
    • Replaced faulty laptop keyboard.
    • Cleaning the inside of various desktop and laptop computers.
    • I am happy to get involved with any job inside a computer.
  • I can securely wipe old hard disks for you prior to disposal.

    What Do I Charge?
  • My 2024 flat rate is only £55 per hour. (Minimum charge of 30 minutes.)
  • There will be a small callout fee for jobs more than 4 miles into town / 5 miles across or out of town (at my discretion) by road from my base (HA3 0, Kenton, Harrow), starting at £10 and increasing for jobs further from base, as it will cost me more in terms of time and travel expenses to get to you. This helps to keep my rates as low as possible.
  • If you are outside my area, then please contact me for more information. I will be happy to help for the right price no matter where you are, as long as I can get to you.
  • No fix no fee! (Excluding callout fee.) If I am unable to fix your issue or complete your request then I will not charge for time spent on that particular issue or request.

    • Who Am I?

    I am a graduate of Brunel University, where I studied and achieved a 2:1 honours degree in Computer Science. After that I worked for 15 years as a Software Engineer. Computers have been a part of my life since I was given an Acorn Electron computer (the smaller sibling of the BBC Micro) when I was 6 years old and started to programme it. I grew up with computers, learning various computer languages and how the internals of computers work.
